I remember it well. I was 19 years old about to hit 20 and had recently left my full time job as a Graphic Designer. My goal was to try to make it on my own as a Freelancer. Somewhere in the midst of that venture Harry Potter was on the top of everyone’s minds. What was the big deal? I had no clue. It was just a book. Compounding the latter, the only active connections I had to writing back then were childhood memories. I used to enjoy writing and winning awards that I sure no one knew about. That aside, I remain sure that where my professional writing career is concerned JK Rowling is the one who started it all.
Thanks to JK Rowling, I thought Writing was easy
Fascinated by the hype, I took a shot at reading Happy Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and I got hooked. Rowling just has a way of using her words to easily draw you into worlds. Reading her stories made me feel like I was engrossed in more than just a book.
I read the Harry Potter sequel, then the sequel, then the sequel to that sequel and so on. It was from that point that remnants of my former self started returning to me; then one day I eventually obtained enough courage to once again write. After all, how hard could it be? I thought. Boy was I wrong. I was very, very wrong.
What it takes to be a professional Writer
It may sound cliched that the most successful author of all time is the one who inspired me to become a writer; but the reality is that she did. Then again, if you have big dreams and you would like to truly make it in this world, you can’t really fault someone for wanting to emulate the best.
The fact that Rowling also happened to make it to the top while recovering from a low that most could never completely fathom also gave me the required hope and renewed energy to never give up. The end result of her perseverance is that it trickled down into my life; after several years of ups and downs it made a professional and dedicated writer out of me. And I will never forget JK Rowling’s story.
